Ivy Cross Dental, Shaftesbury. Planmeca Promax Plus CBCT
Prior to choosing a CBCT machine we spent a considerable amount of time researching the product that would best meet our needs. With few exceptions all manufacturers were able to provide us with plenty of marketing information.
Overwhelmed by all the manufacturer’s claims we eventually we turned to the research papers. We found an independent article that compared the images obtained from a range of machines and the data from that study led us to choose a Planmeca Unit. We needed a machine that would consistently produce excellent images for dental implantology and oral surgery. We also wanted it to be relatively future proof and easy to service. We eventually settled on a Planmeca 3D Promax CBCT scanner. This allows us to scan a range of volumes using different resolutions as well as permitting us to produce panoramic views and ‘Extraoral Bitewing’ images. Whenever we attended a professional exhibition we visited stands offering the Planmeca machines and eventually met John Anderton from DigitalDental. John has been fantastic. He provided information on the requirements for our Scanning Room, drew plans, installed and tested the machine and provided in house training for us. He also kindly married the Romexis program to our Dental Software and we have been delighted. If we tried John’s patience with our unforgivable ignorance and relentless inquisition, he never showed it, was an absolute gentleman and supportive at every juncture. We are delighted with the images and performance of the Promax. We have been able to accept referrals for Scans which also includes a very high resolution (low volume) setting for endodontists requiring more detailed 3D information on root structure and canal morphology. We are also able to export the data in a range of formats and include a multiplatform viewer for our clinical clients. The main focus of our practice is implantology. The Romexis software not only allows us to plan our surgery but also connects with NobelClinician, giving the facility to export data to use with that program (which I am more familiar with). We have been delighted with the ability of the Scanner and software to allow us to scan models and impressions or wax-ups. These can then be converted to STL files and superimposed over the CBCT scan to allow planning of the relationship between the implant, prosthesis and occlusion. Having the scanner on site has revolutionised our surgery. Patients are delighted that there is no delay to their treatment and impressed that they are able to see the images we produce in three dimensions. This visual information reinforces their confidence and cements their understanding during treatment planning and the consent process. We are delighted with both Planmeca and DigitalDental and unreservedly recommend them both. With our kindest regards Miss Eve Henkel (Surgery Manager) Dr Geoffrey Cockrell (Surgery Principal) |
